short story: THE LOOP

I used to watch that boy out my kitchen window. He would ride circles around the parking lot. I think his mother told him not to go beyond the fence. He would just go around and around. Never using his brakes, letting the sole of his sneaker drag along the ground. You’ll ruin your shoes that way. And now the kids have sneakers where the soles light up, so he’d be there after dark, well after the streetlights came on, those little red lights flashing every time he made the loop.
